Not All Blockages Are the Same
A coronary artery blockage does not always mean angioplasty is needed. Some blockages are best treated with angioplasty. Others can be managed safely with medication, lifestyle changes and close follow-up.
The right treatment depends on several factors, including:
How severe the blockage is
Whether it is causing symptoms, such as chest pain or shortness of breath
How well the heart is functioning
Results from heart tests that assess blood flow to the heart muscle
Overall cardiovascular risk, including other underlying conditions
The goal is not simply to open arteries, but to choose the treatment approach that best protects long-term heart health. Careful evaluation by an experienced cardiologist helps ensure the treatment plan is appropriate for the individual patient.
Before You Decide On Angioplasty
Whether you have been advised to undergo angioplasty, or told that you do not require the procedure, it is reasonable to want reassurance that the recommendation is right for you.
A second opinion can help if you want to:
Confirm whether angioplasty or stenting is necessary
Understand if medication or lifestyle changes may be sufficient
Clarify the risks and benefits of each treatment option
Explore non-surgical options if they are suitable
Feel confident about the next step in your care
Second opinions are common in cardiology, especially when the recommended treatment does not align with a patient's expectations or preferences. A careful review of your symptoms, scans and test results can help ensure the treatment plan is appropriate for your condition.

What to Expect From a Second Opinion Consultation
A second opinion consultation involves an independent assessment of your diagnosis and recommended treatment.
Dr Eric Hong will review your medical history, symptoms and previous test results to determine whether angioplasty is the most appropriate option for your condition.
This may include:
Reviewing previous investigations, such as ECGs, stress tests or angiograms
Assessing the severity of your coronary artery blockage
Evaluating whether angioplasty, medication or monitoring may be more appropriate
Explaining the risks, benefits and timing of different treatment options
The goal is to ensure that any procedure recommended is necessary and appropriate for your specific condition.
